China’s new foreign minister expressed his appreciation for Riyadh’s support of China’s positions on key issues for China.
China’s new foreign minister Qin Gang wants his country to build stronger ties with Saudi Arabia and establish a China-Gulf Free Trade Area “as soon as possible”, according to a press release issued by his services. late last night Monday.
Mr. Qin, who was recently named the head of Chinese diplomacy, made the comments during a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud. He expressed his appreciation that Riyadh supports China’s positions on key issues for it.
He judged that the two sides should expand their cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, energy, infrastructure, investment, financial services and technology.
He called for strengthening China’s “strategic partnership” with the Gulf states and establishing a “China-Gulf free trade zone as soon as possible.”
Prince Faisal, for his part, stated that Riyadh considers the relationship with Beijing a cornerstone, while he assured that Saudi Arabia is fully committed to the one China policy.
Mr. Qin, who has just completed a multi-day tour of African countries, also held talks yesterday with his counterparts of the Netherlands, Wopke Hoekstra, and Argentina, Santiago Cafiero, according to state media.
