The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, did not give an exact timetable for the deliveries – This is the “first wave” of its supply from 12 countries

The Ukraine will receive “between 120 and 140” heavy tanks from its Western allies in the “first wave” of its supply from 12 countriesForeign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced today.

Kyiv has in the past few days received a commitment from several Western countries to send tanks to help Ukrainian forces repel the Russian invasion.

“The chariot coalition now has 12 members. I can report that in the first wave of deliveries, the Ukrainian armed forces will receive 120-140 Western tanks,” the Ukrainian prime minister said in an online interview he granted. As he said, these are German Leopard 2 tanks, the British Challenger 2 and the American M1 Abrams. Kyiv also expects to be supplied with French Leclerc tanks.

Kouleba did not give an exact timetable for the deliveries. It will also take some time to train the Ukrainian soldiers in the use of these chariots. He noted that his country is working behind the scenes to secure tanks from other countries as well, at this critical phase of the war. “We continue to work, both to expand the coalition of tanks (including the number of countries) and to increase the contribution of those who have already pledged to give us,” he said.

Kyiv is planning a major counteroffensive aimed at liberating Russian-held territory in southern and eastern Ukraine. The US, however, has urged Ukrainian authorities to postpone those plans until Western military aid arrives. But Ukraine worries that Russia could launch its own counterattack in the coming weeks and months.
