A former actor accused of starting a cult was arrested by Las Vegas police on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting girls as young as 13 for about two decades, according to local police.
Dances With Wolves actor Nathan Chasing Horse, 46, was arrested by police after SWAT officers raided his Las Vegas home, where he reportedly lives with his five wives .
Chasing Horse, whose full name is “Nathan Lee Chasing His Horse”, is allegedly the leader of a para-religious organization called “The Circle” and is accused of sexual exploitation, sexual assault of a minor under 16 and child abuse, according to the arrest warrant.
The former actor, best known for his role as a young member of the Sioux Indian tribe ‘Smiles a Lot’ in the iconic 1990 film Kevin Costner, was arrested following a months-long investigation prompted by a tip received by police in October 2022.
“Chasing Horse” is brought to have abused at least six victimsinvestigators found, according to a 50-page search warrant obtained by The Associated Press.
The sexual abuse allegations against the accused cult leader date back to the early 2000s and span multiple states, including Montana, his home state, South Dakota and Nevada – where he has lived for the past 10 years.
Chasing Horse – a member of the Sicangu Sioux tribe of the Lakota nation – attracted indigenous followers in tribes in the US and Canada who believed he was a “Medicine Man” and “Holy Person” who could communicate with higher beings and performed healing ceremonies, the arrest warrant states.
Followers of The Circle cult offered their young daughters to Chasing Horse to be his wives. A girl is brought offered as a “gift” when she was 15 and another married him when she turned 16. The youngest of his alleged victims was just 13.
