FBI raids Biden’s beach house and finds no classified documents

The FBI, the American federal police, searched for new confidential documents on the private property of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, this Wednesday (1st). The place is a beach house of the Democrat in Rehoboth Beach, city of the state of Delaware (170 km from Washington).

Biden’s lawyer, Bob Bauer, confirmed the action in the morning. “The Department of Justice has sought to do its work without making it public, following the standard of its procedures, and we have agreed to cooperate,” he said.

No confidential documents were found by FBI agents. If the discovery of classified files were proven, this would be the fourth batch found in properties linked to the American president. In that case, Biden and his team would need to explain how the papers ended up in the beach house and why they were not taken to the country’s National Archives and Records Administration, as mandated by the Presidential Documents Act.

This Wednesday’s operation is also the FBI’s third action on Biden-related real estate. On the other two occasions, federal agents conducted additional searches of properties after the president’s team had announced the findings.

The first wave, released by a White House attorney on Jan. 9, was retrieved from a locked cabinet in the living room of the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, a Washington think tank used periodically by the Democrat after he left Vice – Presidency, in 2017.

Another search, this time at Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, retrieved new documents in a storage space in the property’s garage. A one-page document was found “among materials stored in an adjacent room”.

Also in Wilmington, a third batch of six classified papers, some from Biden’s Vice-Presidency period and others from when he was a senator, emerged on the 21st.

The Department of Justice, responsible for the action, did not comment until the publication of this report. On the last 12th, a special prosecutor was appointed to the case, which adds to the wave of discoveries of papers marked as confidential in the possession of high authorities in the country.

Former president and 2024 White House candidate Donald Trump is under criminal investigation after hundreds of documents were found at his resort in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. Trump’s vice-president until 2021, Mike Pence, also had secret files at his home in Carmel, Indiana.

There are significant differences between the cases of Biden and Trump. First, the amount of papers: hundreds of documents were found with Trump, while the files found with Biden are a few documents and pages.

The main one, however, is the reaction of the two. Biden has cooperated with the investigations, while Trump and his team resisted attempts to recover the materials and the investigation from the beginning. The Republican is also criminally investigated, which is not the case with the Democrat.
