Three people died and 32 others were injured in a fire that broke out today in a Cairo hospital, the Ministry of Health announced.

“The fire started in the radiology department of a charity hospital in the Marariyya neighborhood,” in the northern suburbs of the Egyptian capital, said ministry spokesman Hossam Abdelgafar.

The cause of the fire has not been clarified at this time.

In Cairo, a metropolis of several million inhabitants, fires are often caused by short circuits. In one of the deadliest, last summer, 41 believers lost their lives in a Coptic church when an air conditioner caught fire, causing the building to fill with smoke. Trapped in the narrow staircase, men, women and children suffocated as fire engines were delayed in arriving because they could not easily pass through the narrow streets of the district.
