Rescuers pull 21 survivors from building ruins – The under-construction building collapsed under unclear circumstances on Thursday afternoon, trapping dozens of workers.

Three people have been pulled dead from the rubble of a three-story building that collapsed on Thursday in Abuja, Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) announced Friday.

Rescuers pulled 21 survivors from the rubble of the collapsed building in Gwarinpa, a developed district of the Nigerian capital, as the search and rescue operation entered its second day, NEMA spokesman Mancho Ezekiel told Xinhua news agency by telephone.

The building under construction collapsed under unclear circumstances on Thursday afternoon, trapping dozens of workers.

Building collapses are not uncommon in Nigeria and are often attributed by experts to old structures with poor maintenance, non-compliance with planning regulations and the use of low-quality construction materials.
