Cyprus: The polls have opened for the election of the 8th President of the Republic of Cyprus

The polls were opened in all 1,113 election centers operating in the Republic of Cyprus, as well as in 15 election centers in Greece and in Bulgaria.

The voting for the election of the President of the Republic of Cyprus began at 7 am. As stated by the General Commissioner of Elections Kostas Constantinou, a total of 561,273 persons have the right to vote.

The polls were opened in all 1,113 election centers operating in the Republic of Cyprus, as well as in 15 election centers in Greece and in Bulgaria.

At 09:00 am Cyprus time, the ballot box is expected to open in the United Arab Emirates, at 10:00 am. the polls in the United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Luxembourg, while at 2:00 p.m. the ballot box will be opened in the United States of America.

The competent agencies of the State have been on alert since the evening and ensure that any problems that may arise, due to the weather conditions, are dealt with immediately, so that the movement of voters to their polling centers is uninterrupted.

Voting started smoothly, without any problems and will continue until 12 noon. After a one-hour break, it will resume at 1:00 p.m. and will end at 6:00 p.m., when the polls will be closed both in the Republic and abroad.

It is noted that, in exceptional cases, voting at a polling station may be extended if a large number of voters are expected to vote at the end of the voting period.

As the Chief Election Officer, I call on all voters to come to the polls to exercise their right to vote and to make their choice in a responsible manner. We will be here to inform citizens at regular intervals about the progress of the electoral process. I wish everyone a good vote”, concluded Mr. Konstantinou.
