The four people were arrested after officers found accounts sharing “provocative posts aimed at creating fear and panic,” police said.
He added that a wider investigation into the social media accounts was underway, but offered no information on the content of the posts, AFP reports.
Turkish social media has been filled with posts from people complaining about the lack of lifeguards in their areas, particularly in Hatay province. Turkey has had a disinformation law since last October, which punishes the spread of “fake news” with up to three years in prison.
According to reports from residents in some areas the rescue crews have still not arrived, while the help is insufficient.
