Coccolino’s lawyers argued that there is no risk of the politician’s removal from Italy

During today’s process of validating the arrest of the Italian MEP Andrea Coccolino, his defense lawyers asked the Italian judiciary not to give the “green light” to the extradition of their client to Belgium and to release him from prison.

Coccolino’s lawyers argued that there is no risk of the politician’s removal from Italy, that there is no serious evidence, and they emphasized, at the same time, that the MEP had repeatedly requested to testify before the Belgian prosecutors, without receiving any response.

“I am calm, I have confidence in the work of justice,” Andrea Coccolino told his lawyers from the Poggioreale prison in Naples, where he was transferred last night. The Italian center-left MEP was arrested, yesterday, after a European arrest warrant was issued by Belgian prosecutors, on charges of corruption, participation in a criminal organization and money laundering, in the context of the Cattargate case.
