Palestinian killed in clashes with Jewish settlers in West Bank

A Palestinian was killed on Saturday during clashes with Israeli settlers in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health and the Israeli army said.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the dead man is named Mothkal Suleiman Rayyan, 27 years old, and was shot in the head by a settler near the village of Karawat Bani Hassan, south of the Palestinian city of Nablus.

For its part, the Israeli army announced that it had received information about “violent clashes between dozens of Palestinians and Israeli civilians near the village of Qarawat Bani Hasan”, specifying that it had been informed that a Palestinian had been killed. Soldiers were sent to the scene and fired in the air, managing to end the riots, he added.

The Samaria Regional Council, an organization representing the settlers of the northern West Bank, announced for its part that “a group of pilgrims from the Jewish settlement of Havat Gair who were walking on Saturday morning were attacked by Palestinians (…) and shot in the air “.

“The Palestinians are talking about a dead person,” he adds without further elaboration.

Conflicts are frequent between settlers and the Palestinian population in the West Bank.

Nearly 475,000 Israeli settlers live in settlements considered illegal under international law in the West Bank, home to more than 2.8 million Palestinians.
