At approximately 18:30 the polls closed in Cyprus for the electoral process for the election of the President of the Republic.

The counting of votes began immediately, with the final result expected shortly before 20:00.

561,273 citizens went to the polls today to elect the 8th president of the Republic of Cyprus, in the 13th elections of the country.

Andreas Mavroyiannis and Nikos Christodoulidis are competing in the second round of the Presidential Elections, having received percentages of 29.59% and 32.04% respectively last Sunday.

The 561,273 voters were invited to go to the polls today as well, with the hope that the percentage of 27.96% who abstained last Sunday will register a decrease.

The polls opened at 7.00 am. and will remain open until 12 noon. After an hour break they opened again from 1.00 pm. until 6.00 p.m.

In exceptional cases, the presiding officer of each polling station may extend voting hours, if necessary, until 9:00 p.m. at the latest, provided that he/she waits outside his/her polling station to a large number of voters vote.

It is noted that the voting hours at the polling centers abroad have been adjusted in such a way that the voting ends there at 6.00 pm, Cyprus time.

The ceremony of announcing the new President will take place in the evening at the Tassos Papadopoulos Eleftheria stadium.
