Tens of thousands of British nurses intend to escalate their strike action next month as the government refuses to meet their demands for salary increases.

The RCN (Royal College of Nursing) union has today announced a 48-hour strike afrom 6 am on March 1. He warned that this mobilization will involve nursing staff working in Emergency Departments, Intensive Care Units and other services that have been exempted in previous times.

The RCN’s two-day strike action last quarter was only about 12 hours every day.

“Until now, we have asked thousands of our members to continue working during strike action. But it’s now clear that this is just prolonging the row (with the government),” union general secretary Pat Cullen said, stressing that no sector of the NHS would be unaffected.

Britain is experiencing its biggest wave of strike action in decades, involving hundreds of thousands of workers across a range of industries, giving Prime Minister Rishi Sunak a headache.

The RCN union highlights how nurses have suffered for a decade due to low pay which has forced thousands to change jobs. He is demanding pay rises in line with inflation, which has reached its worst level in four decades in Britain.

For its part, the government warns that such wage increases would add fuel to the fire of inflation, prompting further interest rate hikes.

“By refusing to negotiate with nurses, the Prime Minister is driving even more workers into strike action,” Cullen warned.
