New hope that their daughter may have been found has been given to Kate and Gerry McCann by a 21-year-old woman from Poland who claims there is a strong and reasonable possibility that she is the 3-year-old girl who disappeared in 2007 from the Algarve resort in Portugal.

Julia Wedel, from Poland, on an Instagram account she set up as @iammadeleinemcann, says she is 21 but believes her age may be wrong and she is 19 – the age Madeleine would be now if she were alive.

She also presents several clues that make her almost certain that she is Madeleine – such as various strange events in her life, something she overheard from her grandmother a few months ago, inaccuracies in relatives’ accounts, and even that she has a freckle on her leg. her and a spot in her eye in the same places as Madeline.

According to police in Germany, little Madeleine was murdered by the main suspect in the case, Christian Bruckner, who is in prison – however, despite extensive searches, the girl’s body was never found, leaving the window of hope open for her parents.

The girl contacted the family and – in the face of even the slightest chance of finding their child – Madeleine’s parents asked for a DNA test, which Julia Wedel accepted, as she seems convinced that this is little Madeleine.

A source close to the parents told the Daily Star Sunday: “The family are not taking any chances, they are willing to look into similar reports. The girl does look like one. There is no doubt about it. If what she says is true, there’s every chance it could be her.”
