Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of the Russian mercenary organization Wagnerhe accused officials which he did not name as deliberately refusing to give his fighters sufficient ammunition amid the ongoing rivalry between himself and parts of the Russian elite.

THE Prigozhinonce a businessman who shied away from public life, has taken an even more public role in Russian political affairs since the start of the war in Ukraine a year ago, with the Wagner organization spearheading Russia’s months-long battle for the capture of the city of Bakhmut in the Ukrainian Donetsk region.

In a seven-minute audio message released today by his press service, an apparently angry and emotionally charged Prigozhin said he had been asked to “apologise and obey” in order to secure ammunition for his troops.

Speaking at times in a raised voice and swearing occasionally, he said: “Ahi am able to solve this problem in spite of all my relations and contacts».

Prigozhin stated that Russia’s military production is now sufficient to supply the forces fighting at the front and that the supply difficulties faced by its fighters are the result of conscious decisions.

Those who intervene in our effort to win this war are absolutely, directly working for the enemy“, he stated.

Since the conflict broke out, Prigozhin has publicly sparred with generals and Kremlin officials, accusing them of not showing enough zeal in the campaign against Kiev. He directs his harshest criticism at the Russian Defense Ministry, which he has accused of trying to take credit for Wagner’s battlefield successes.

In his audio message, Prigozhin said the unnamed individuals he blames for the ammunition shortage “eat breakfast, lunch and dinner on gold plates” and send their relatives on holiday to Dubai, a popular destination for the Russian elite.

The White House said last week that the Wagner group had suffered more than 30,000 casualties since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with about 9,000 of them killed in action. About 90 percent of those killed in Ukraine since December are convicts, the White House said, in a report on prisoners recruited by Prigozhin.
