A 16-year-old Palestinian who, almost two weeks ago, was wounded in the head by an Israeli soldier’s fire, died today in a hospital in Nablus.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced this evening the death of “Modaser Mohammad Thib Sawa, 16, due to his injury two weeks ago by fire from the occupation forces in Balata camp”, near Nablus, in the northern part of the West Bank.

Hospital sources told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the 16-year-old had been admitted with serious injuries on February 8.

The Israeli army had announced that on the evening of February 8 “gunmen” opened fire on soldiers near Joseph’s tomb and they returned fire.

Since the beginning of the year, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has claimed the lives of 49 Palestinians (armed and civilians, some minors), six Israelis (including three minors) and one Ukrainian woman, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli and Palestinian sources.
