The Russian Navy announced today that he does not intend to proceed with test launch of a hypersonic missile during the common high schools with hers China and her of South Africa.

Ahead of the start of the 10-day naval training course – on Friday off the coast of South Africa in the Indian Ocean – Russia’s state news agency TASS reported that a test launch of a supersonic Zircon missile was planned.

The joint naval exercise of the three countries coincides with the completion of one year since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (February 24, 2022).

Russia is participating with the frigate “Admiral Gorskov” and an escort vessel. This particular frigate was modernized at the beginning of the year and equipped with supersonic Zircon missiles.

These are long-range anti-ship missiles that travel at nine times the speed of sound, making them “invisible” to anti-missile defense systems. They are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

The South African Navy said the three countries’ joint exercises focus mainly on strategic counter-piracy measures. “It’s an opportunity for Russia and China to expand their influence on the African continent,” noted Vice Admiral Siphiwe Lucky.
