The billionaire founder of Microsoft may have said in the past that he doesn’t particularly enjoy drinking beerhowever that didn’t stop him from buying a 3.76% stake in Dutch drinks giant Heineken Holding NV.

According to the notification to the Dutch Financial Markets Authority (AFM), the shares were bought by Bill Gates on February 17. It should be noted that Heineken Holding owns a controlling stake in brewer Heineken NV (HEIN.AS).

Specifically, Gates bought the shares from Mexico’s FEMSA, which prefers to invest in the retail sector, selling its entire stake of 18 million shares in the brewing company.

Croisos bought 10.8 million shares, worth €883 million at current market prices, triggering a disclosure requirement under Dutch stock exchange rules.

He himself, in a question asked to him in 2018, had said that he does not prefer beer. Even when he’s in places where drinking beer is an “institution,” like at a baseball game, he drinks light beer just to get in the mood.

In fact, it is characteristic that, continuing the answer to the same question, he also apologized for disappointing all beer fans.
