The president of the USA Joe Biden will chat online tomorrow with G7 leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to mark the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion, and will announce new sanctions against of those who support Moscow’s war machine, the White House announced.
The G7 met last year, hours after the invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin began and imposed an initial set of sanctions on Moscow.
“The G7 has become the backbone of our strong and unified response to Russia,” White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre told reporters. Leaders to discuss tomorrow Friday ‘how we will continue to support Ukraine’ but also ways to intensify the pressure on Russia, he added.
The sanctions will concern Russian banks, the technology and defense sectors, as well as individuals and companies involved in war. The US will also announce a new support package for Ukraine that will include assistance in the economic, security and energy sectors, Jean-Pierre added.
