“Ukraine has changed. Zelensky has changed.” With this caption, the Ukrainian newspaper Kiev Post published a photo collage of the Ukrainian president before, and a year after, the Russian invasion.

In the collage photo taken about 365 days apart, the difference in Volodymyr Zelensky’s face is evident.

Zelensky, a comedian on a popular TV series where he played the president of Ukraine, unexpectedly took power in an election, and was seen by many as “easy prey” for Vladimir Putin. A year later, he is considered by the international community to be the leader of the Ukrainian resistance to Russia.

Volodymyr Zelensky addressed a message of resistance to the people of his country on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion, stressing that “we will defeat everyone”.

In the video, released under the title “the undefeated year”, 45-year-old Zelensky is seen sitting at his desk. He remembers how he addressed the Ukrainians a year ago in a hasty announcement as Russia’s invasion of the country began.
