Two people were killed and three injured in Khmelnytskyi in western Ukraine after a Russian attack involving more than 10 Iranian-made drones overnight, authorities said.

One of the dead was a member of the rescue services killed in the line of duty, Mayor Oleksandr Simchitsyne said on Telegram, saying “buildings were damaged” by the strikes.

A little later, the governor of the Khmelnytskyi region, Serhii Gamalii, announced on Telegram the death of a second rescuer, who succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Gamalii also reported three strikes overnight against the city, which is about 350 kilometers southwest of Kiev and had about 275,000 residents before the Russian invasion.

In total, Russia has sent up to “14 Iranian-made Shahed combat drones” against Ukraine, Ukraine’s air force announced this morning, of which 11 were shot down by air defenses.

Nine drones were shot down around Kiev, as announced by the capital’s military administration.
