“At the moment, I don’t believe that China will agree to transfer weapons to Russia (…) I don’t see any indication that this is even being discussed,” said the head of Ukraine’s intelligence services
The head of Ukraine’s intelligence services, Kirill Budanov, he sees “no indication” to make him believe that the China will deliver weapons to Russia, he said in an interview broadcast on Monday by the Voice of America radio station.
“I don’t share that view,” Budanov said in this interview, conducted in Ukrainian on February 25, referring to US allegations – strongly denied by Beijing – that China intends to deliver weapons to Russia to help it in its attack on Ukraine.
“Right now, I don’t believe that China will agree to transfer weapons to Russia (…) I don’t see any indication that such a thing is even being discussed,” he added.
When asked about the American complaints, Budanov replied: “I am the head of the Intelligence services and I rely, with all due respect, not on personal, individual opinions, but only on evidence. I don’t see any such evidence.”
Allegations of Chinese arms shipments to Russia were repeated by CIA director William Burns in an interview broadcast by US television network CBS on Sunday night, a day before Budanov’s remarks.
“We are convinced that Chinese leaders are considering providing lethal equipment” to Russia, Burns had noted.
Iran “is practically the only country that transfers more or less serious weapons to Russia,” the Ukrainian official commented. “There were reports that something was coming from North Korea, but we have no confirmation. There is not a single incident where we have recorded a weapon from North Korea here,” he continued.
“Russia is just trying to buy anything from anywhere. Because their problems are big,” concluded Budanov.
