The police in the Netherlands today tried, with clubs and shields to dissolve a demonstration involving several thousand protesters currently gathered in Amsterdam to protest against the covid-19 measures, but also against vaccinations.
Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema issued an emergency order ordering police to restore order in the Museum’s main square after protesters violated a ban on public gatherings during the latest wave of COID outbreaks. -19.
Most of the protesters did not wear masks and did not follow the measures of social distancing, while they ignored an order not to march and moved along a main street, playing music and holding yellow umbrellas, expressing their opposition to the government measures.
The Netherlands imposed a sudden lockdown on December 19, with the government ordering the closure of all stores except the essentials, as well as the closure of restaurants, hairdressers, gyms, museums, and other public spaces, at least until January 14.
At the same time, public meetings of more than two people have been banned, in accordance with the current restrictive measures.
Like other European countries, the Netherlands imposed the measures in an effort to prevent the spread of a new wave of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, which could deactivate the already strained public health system of the country.
