A man who brought an explosive device in his luggage was arrested at an airport in the state of Pennsylvania. The announcement was made by the American authorities.

“The device was detected during a routine baggage check” on Monday at Lehigh Valley International Airport in the eastern US, the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) explained in a press release.

According to the press release, “the suitcase set off an alarm when it entered the baggage screening device,” prompting a TSA agent to inspect the contents.

After examining a cylindrical object inside the suitcase, the FBI concluded that it was indeed an active explosive device, containing powder similar to that used to make fireworks, according to an FBI report obtained by news website Axios. .

The suitcase also contained a package of butane, a gas used primarily as fuel, a lighter, and a pipe with white powder residue, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

The suspect, identified as Mark Muffley by police, was scheduled to board a flight to Orlando, Florida.

Mr Muffley left the airport on Monday after hearing the public address system calling for him to come to the security desk. He was arrested by the police a few hours later.
