The former Prime Minister of Britain Boris Johnson stated that it would be very difficult for him to vote for a new agreement for the post- Brexit trade with Northern Ireland, saying the deal hands control to the European Union.

In his speech at Global Soft Power Summit 2023Johnson broke his silence on the new deal that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described as historic, a deal that gives Britain a chance to move on from the Brexit wrangles.

But Johnson, whose allies accuse Sunak of helping to oust him as prime minister, said the deal did little more than allow the EU to retain control over Northern Ireland and that the government should he sticks to his own plan.

“I would have a hard time voting for something like that because I think we should do something different”Johnson said.

“But…we have to be clear about what’s going on here. This is not about the UK taking back control… The EU is politely easing up to allow us to do what we want in our own country. Not by our laws, but by theirs”.
