The German political world responded with fury
The anger of the German political world was caused by the climate activists who demonstrated today in Berlin and poured a black liquid on the monument where the articles of the Constitution are engraved, near the building of the Bundestag, the lower house.
“A monument to our Constitution was tarnished. This makes me angry and I don’t understand it at all,” said the speaker of the Bundestag, Berbel Bas, who comes from the Social Democratic party.

Earlier, the “Letzte Generation” group, which has organized several demonstrations to raise public awareness against climate change, posted a video on social networking sites showing activists dressed in orange vests pouring the black liquid on some of the 19 glass panels, three meters high, where the articles of the Constitution are engraved. Then they stuck posters with the slogan “Oil or constitutional rights?”
Police said it was not yet clear what the black liquid was. A spokeswoman for the authorities said the six activists have been identified and charges have been filed against them.
The monument “Grungesetz 49” is the work of the Israeli sculptor Danny Karavan.
Activists said they wanted to protest Germany’s continued use of fossil fuels and remind the government of its constitutional duty to act on climate change.
“The Constitution embodies freedom, democracy and the rule of law. We should never soil it,” whatever the reason, Liberal Justice Minister Marco Busman commented on Twitter.
This action was also condemned by the Greens, who participate in the government coalition, but also by the opposition Christian Democrats.
The group “Last Generation” has organized many mobilizations recently, blocking streets or throwing various substances on paintings, inside museums.
