The story of 37-year-old Li Jingwei, who was abducted by his family 33 years ago and managed to reunite with his mother, using the internet and his memory, shocks China and the whole planet.

Lee was abducted by his parents at the age of 4 from a trafficking ring.

He grew up in Henan, in north-central China, but reportedly had “countless nights of longing” and had been thinking about his biological family ever since.

When he learned how other abducted children managed to reunite with relatives, he decided to draw a map of his village, as it had been etched in his memory.

The details of his plans, which included what some houses looked like and how the villagers cooked rice, surprised many.

It is worth noting that according to the Daily Mail, the 33-year-old in his later life, painted his paternal home, at least once a day in order not to forget it.

Police matched the map with a village in Zaotong, a town in the Wuhan Mountains in southwest China.

DNA tests confirmed that Jingway was the missing son of a woman he managed to meet on New Year’s Eve.

Child abductions are a common scourge in China.

Specifically, about 20,000 children are abducted each year in the country, according to 2015 estimates.
