Dr Maggie Anderin-Pocock (Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock), astronomer and best known for presenting the BBC One and CBeebies Stargazing show ‘The Sky at Night’ is getting her very own Barbie doll.

“I hope my doll reminds girls that when you aim for the stars, anything is possible,” said the famous scientist, who was named a Barbie role model for her work promoting girls’ careers in science. He added that “it is a great honor to receive this doll that honors my achievements.”

Her award comes ahead of International Women’s Day tomorrow as well as British Science Week (March 10-19).

“I want to inspire the next generation of scientists, especially girls, and let them know that STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) is for them. These subjects are too important to be left to boys, because through science, you can literally change the world,” he noted.

The doll is dressed in a dress reminiscent of a starry sky and comes with a telescope. “When I was little, Barbie didn’t look like me, so to have one created that looks like me is mind-blowing.

According to the BBC, the astronomer has been announced as the new head of the University of Leicester.
