“It was a difficult night,” Zelenskiy says in a new message, adding that everyone will work as hard as necessary to restore electricity
At least 11 people have been killed and more than 20 wounded after a barrage of Russian raids on critical infrastructure across Ukraine, regional authorities said, as Russia stepped up its attacks across the country.
A total of 81 missiles were used in a “massive attack,” including six Kinzhal ballistic missiles capable of evading Kiev’s air defenses, the Ukrainian military said.
“The attack was really large-scale and for the first time such different types of missiles were used. We see that up to six Kinzhal were used this time. This is an attack that I don’t remember seeing before,” Yuriy Ikhnat, a spokesman for Ukraine’s Air Force Command, told Ukrainian television on Thursday.
“So far, we have no capability to counter these weapons”he added, referring to the Kinzhals.
The president of Ukraine commented in a message on Facebook that “it was a rough night.”
“The enemy fired 81 rockets in an attempt to intimidate the Ukrainians again by reverting to his vile tactics”stated Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Maintenance and power companies, local authorities, central authorities – everyone will work as hard as it takes to restore power to struggling cities and regions. We have already shown what Ukraine is capable of. And no matter how bad Russia does, our state and people will still not be in captivity. Neither rockets nor atrocities will help Russia in this”the Ukrainian president said in a taped message at the end of the 379th day of the war.
From his side the mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko said 15% of households were without power and 40% without heating after explosions in two areas of the Ukrainian capital.
