In less than a week of fighting near the city of Bakhmut, the epicenter of fighting in eastern Ukraine
Over 1,100 Russian soldiers were killed in less than a week of fighting near the city of Bakhmut, the epicenter of fighting in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday.
“In less than a week, starting on March 6, we managed to kill more than 1,100 enemy soldiers in the Bakhmut sector alone, an irreparable loss for Russia, right there, near Bakhmut,” Zelensky emphasized.
According to the Ukrainian president, 1,500 Russian soldiers were injured to the point of being out of action. Dozens of pieces of enemy equipment were destroyed as well as more than 10 Russian ammunition depots.
Reuters could not independently verify the accounts.
The head of the Wagner paramilitary organization Yevgeny Prigozhin announced on Saturday that his fighters have gain considerable ground in Bahamut, posting a video in which he states that he is at a distance of approx 1.2 kilometers away from the administrative center of the city. However, he reiterated that the Ukrainians will retaliate, warning that there is a danger of Russian forces to be surrounded.
“This is a five-story building where the smoke is coming from – the city administration building, the administrative center of the city. It’s a kilometer and 200 meters away”Prigozhin characteristically said in the video he posted on Telegram, pointing in that direction.
