THE Poland can send to Kyiv MiG-29 fighter jets over the next four to six weeks, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said today, hinting that Kiev’s allies are moving towards an agreement on the next phase of their military support for Ukraine.

Poland has said it is ready to send Soviet-engineered MiG-29s to Ukraine as part of a coalition of countries. However, due to the reluctance of Kiev’s allies to send fighter jets, it was unclear how long this process would take.

“It could happen in the next 4-6 weeks,” Morawiecki said during a press conference when asked about it.

Last week, Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nád said his Polish counterpart told him during the European ministerial meeting in Stockholm that Warsaw would agree to give MiG-29s to Ukraine under a joint process.

The Slovak minister had stated at the time that the time had come for his country to take a similar decision.

The former Warsaw Pact NATO countries have been at the forefront of support for Ukraine since February 24, 2022 and the start of the Russian offensive against it.

Warsaw in particular has played an important role in persuading European allies to help Ukraine with heavy weapons, mainly tanks, the deployment of which was opposed by many governments, including Germany.

Poland has sent 14 German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
