“Miracle Four-legged”: How a dog managed to save a hiker on a mountain in Croatia (pic)

A dog saved the life of a hiker, who had fallen into a ravine in the mountains of Croatia, as he lay on it, to keep him warm, for 13 hours, until the arrival of the rescuers, Croatian media reported today.

Grga Brkic was injured last weekend after falling into a 150-meter-deep ravine at the same time as his cousin’s dog in the Velebit Mountains off the Adriatic coast.

Rescuers found it difficult to reach the man and the animal due to snow, frost and uprooted trees due to landslides.

“Friendship and love between man and dog are unlimited,” the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) wrote in a Facebook post. In the photo published by the rescuers, the dog can be seen lying on the victim, who is on a stretcher.

“This dog is a real miracle, kind, nice, maybe he loves people more than other dogs,” the owner described in the Jutarnji List newspaper.

Three hikers accompanied by North, an 8-month-old Malamut Alaskan, were trying to descend a icy slope at the time of the accident, which occurred near the highest peak in the mountain range.

“North curled up on the victim and warmed him,” HGSS explained.
