US: Third complaint filed against former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo

by

Albany County Sheriff’s Office has ruled that former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo should not be prosecuted for sexual misconduct.

Although he considered the complainant’s testimony to be “credible”, prosecutor David Soares explained that he did not have enough evidence to prove in court Cuomo’s guilt “beyond any doubt”.

Cuomo was forced to step down last August after several women accused him of abuse. The former governor was due to appear in court in Albany for the first time on Friday, but the prosecutor said he would not pursue the case and asked the county sheriff to drop the lawsuit.

In this case, a Cuomo employee accused him of touching her on the chest against her will, putting his hand through her shirt, at his official residence in Albany, in December 2020.

Soares is the third prosecutor to file a similar case against the Democratic politician.

A total of eleven women had accused Cuomo of sexual harassment or assault.
