Britain: Finally the confirmatory PCR for the asymptomatic after a positive antigen test

The UK Health and Safety Administration has announced that from 11 January, those in the UK who test positive after a rapid coronavirus antigen test will no longer need to have a confirmatory PCR molecular test as long as they do not show any symptoms.

They will thus be able to begin immediately the seven-day period of isolation.

The measure is adopted in order to complete the quarantine of asymptomatic patients faster and without the delay of waiting for the result of the molecular test.

This need is dictated by the significant and growing absenteeism of workers in many sectors of the economy and in critical services and infrastructure, such as the NHS health system.

It is estimated that four out of ten coronavirus carriers in the UK do not have the symptoms of coronavirus, ie cough, fever and / or loss of smell and taste.

In the last seven days there have been almost 1.3 million positive Covid diagnoses in the UK, a number of citizens who are theoretically at home in isolation.

Weeks ago, the government reduced the isolation period for carriers of the virus from ten to seven days, as they underwent rapid tests that tested negative on the sixth and seventh day.
