Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during her intervention at the EU Summit in Brussels, emphasized that “if Tunisia collapses, there is a risk of a refugee wave of 900 thousand people, that is, a tragic, catastrophic event for humanity”, the Italian media reports information.

According to the Italian press, Meloni added that “quick and concrete actions are needed to avoid the continuation of a situation in which criminal organizations control the trafficking of people in the Mediterranean”.

The newspaper La Stampa writes that “according to information, some countries – such as Austria and the Netherlands – thanked Italy for the constructive dialogue initiated by Meloni for effective cooperation in the fight against human traffickers”.

At this time, a bilateral meeting between the Italian Prime Minister and her Portuguese counterpart, Antonio Costa, is underway.
