Chilean-Haitian Rodolphe Haar has pleaded guilty before a US judge to three charges he faces for his role in the assassination of Haitian President Hovenel Moise, who was killed inside his home in July 2021.

Haar is one of 11 defendants in the case. They include businessmen who allegedly helped the attackers procure vehicles and weapons from Florida and ex-soldiers from Colombia who shot and killed Moises in his bedroom.

According to the US Department of Justice, Haar is accused of helping the Colombians procure the weapons.

The perpetrators lived in a house that was under his control and he also helped them when they were hiding from the Haitian authorities. He was arrested in January 2022 in the Dominican Republic.

Haar, who faces up to life in prison, will be sentenced on June 2 in Miami, according to court documents cited by Reuters.

Moise’s assassination left a political vacuum in Haiti. Today, much of the country is controlled by powerful gangs, and clashes between them have sparked a humanitarian crisis with at least 160,000 civilians displaced.
