Ukraine’s president has said he is counting on the World Bank’s support for his country’s rebuilding operation after the Russian invasion.

He said he met with representatives of the international financial institution, with whom he discussed ways to financially support this demanding undertaking.

“Naturally, we focused on reconstruction – and what needs to be done in the many cities and villages of Ukraine that have suffered from the terrorist attacks of the occupiers,” Zelensky said in a video message late Friday night.

The World Bank estimates that the damage caused to Ukrainian buildings and infrastructure in the first year of the Russian invasion is estimated at about $135 billion. The total cost of Ukraine’s reconstruction and economic recovery from this war is estimated to exceed $410 billion over the next decade.

The debris removal operation alone is estimated to cost more than $5 billion.
