It is the sixth district where Zelensky moves within a week
THE Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited two towns in northern Ukraine today to celebrate their recapture by Ukrainian forces a year ago in fighting that he said showed his country would defeat the Russian invaders.
In the footage released by Zelensky’s office, the Ukrainian president visits Okhtyrka and Trostianets in Sumy Oblast. It is the sixth district Zelensky has moved to in a week – some on the front line – as speculation mounts of an imminent Ukrainian counter-offensive.
“These days, these weeks, we celebrate the anniversary of the liberation of our cities and communities in the northern regions” he told a small crowd of soldiers and civilians gathered at the Trostianets railway station. He then awarded medals to soldiers.
Russian forces invaded Shumi, which borders Russia, at the start of the war in February 2022. They were driven out after a month after meeting fierce resistance.
Footage posted online shows badly damaged buildings in the cities Zelensky visited. Ukrainian officials said territory near the border continues to be frequently shelled by Russian artillery and air force.
“Our people proved that the conqueror will be defeated by us, by our morale, by the Ukrainian temperament. Our people proved it, our fighters proved it”Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
