Kim Yo-yong, the sister of leader Kim Jong-un, accused Ukraine of asks to acquire nuclear weaponsas the state-run KCNA news agency reported today, basing its claim on an online signature collection launched in the country, which so far has less than 1,000 signatures.

Kim said the online signature gathering could be a political conspiracy by the president’s office Volodymyr Zelensky, however, he did not provide any evidence to substantiate this claim.

After the announcement of the Russian president Vladimir Putin that Moscow plans to regularly transfer nuclear weapons to Belarus, a public signature collection was launched on the website of the Ukrainian presidency last Thursday, calling on Ukraine to host nuclear weapons on Ukrainian soil or equip itself with nuclear weapons of its own.

As of this afternoon, the petition had garnered only 611 signatures, far short of the 25,000 needed for a response from Zelensky. Kiev officials have not yet commented on the online signature gathering.

North Korea forges closer relations with the Kremlin as both countries are isolated from the West.
