A French volunteer was killed a week ago in Ukraine, the French Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday, confirming information first reported by Le Monde newspaper.

“Some ‘T.’ he was killed a week ago,” the French newspaper reported.

“We have been informed of the sad news of his death. We express our condolences to the family, with whom the competent services of the ministry (…) are in contact,” said Center d’Orsay to Agence France-Presse.

Last week, the French Foreign Ministry also confirmed the death, in the Bakhmut region — the hottest spot on the front line in eastern Ukraine — of Kevin David, a former aid worker who went over a year ago to fight in side of the forces of Kiev.

“We remind you that Ukraine, its entire territory, is a war zone. In this context, we officially discourage anyone from going to Ukraine, whatever the purpose,” French diplomacy noted, repeating verbatim a statement it had made public last week.

Several French citizens volunteered to fight in Ukraine, where a foreign legion has been formed under the orders of Kiev. Their exact number is not officially known. According to Maud, eight have been killed so far.
