Two sailors lost their lives and a third is ignored after the fishing boat wreck this morning off the northern coast of Spain, while others seven crew members were rescuedthe regional authorities announced.

The Villaboa 1 sank at around 05:30 (local time, 06:30 Greek time) while it was near Cabo Mayor, the northernmost point of the bay of Santander, the capital of Cantabria. The causes of the wreck are not yet known.

“Initially there were ten crew members: seven rescued, there is one missing and two dead,” the president of this Spanish province, Miguel Angel Revilla, noted on Twitter, speaking of “another maritime accident.”

The representative of the local authorities of Cantabria, Ainoa Quinones, clarified speaking to the Cadena Ser radio station that the dead are a Spaniard and a Ghanaian citizen. The missing person is Peruvian.

According to her, one of the seven rescued is in critical condition.

The previous maritime tragedy involving a fishing vessel from Spain dates back to February 15, 2022, when the vessel Villa de Pitanxo sank 450 kilometers off the coast of Newfoundland in Canada, with 24 crew members on board.

Three sailors were rescued, while the bodies of only nine of the 21 dead could be located. The crew consisted of 16 Spaniards, five Peruvians and three Ghanaians.
