The first death from “flurona” was announced by Peru

by

The Peruvian Ministry of Health announced yesterday, Thursday, the first death in the country due to “flurona”, ie the simultaneous infection with the influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2.

He is an 87-year-old man with underlying diseases who had not been vaccinated against coronavirus.

Two other cases have been identified in the Amazon region of northern Peru, according to Cesar Munaikos, a researcher at the ministry’s National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control.

This is a minor and a 40-year-old person fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to Mr. Mounaikos. The scientist urged the population to be vaccinated as soon as possible against both COVID-19 and the flu, because this “reduces the risk of death”.

“It is important to take this into account because we are currently experiencing an outbreak of H3N2 flu in the jungle, in the (Loreto), San Martin, Amazonas and Ucayali districts,” he said.

On Tuesday, Peru announced that it was affected by a third wave of the pandemic, which is expected to worsen with the arrival of the new, more infectious Omicron variant of the new coronavirus in December. 309 Omicron cases have already been confirmed.
