Two Palestinians were killed today by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced today.

In a brief statement, the ministry said that two “martyrs” were killed by the fire of the “occupation” forces in Nablus, without publishing their names.

From his side the Israeli military clarified that it was conducting an “anti-terrorist” operation in Nablus, during which two suspects were arrested who were involved in an attack in Howara that injured two soldiers.

During today’s operation Israeli soldiers came under fire and returned fire, the army explained. In addition, he added that military equipment, weapons and ammunition were confiscated.

“During the operation a number of gunmen fired at the soldiers, who returned fire,” the army statement said.

Moreover, during the night, a person allegedly involved in terrorist activities was arrested in Wadi Shiman.

At least 90 Palestinians, 15 Israelis and one Ukrainian woman have been killed since the start of the year, according to an AFP tally compiled by official Palestinian and Israeli authorities.

These numbers include, on the Palestinian side, fighters and civilians, including minors, while on the Israeli side mainly civilians, including minors, as well as two members of the Arab minority.

Ahead of the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan there were fears of escalating tensions, but the first week was relatively calm.
