The limit is now multiplied to 2 litres, a move made possible after the installation of advanced technology axial scanners at hand baggage checkpoints
London, Thanasis Gavos
Passengers flying from London City Airport will no longer be required to limit the amount of liquids in each bottle in their hand luggage to 100ml.
The limit is now multiplied to 2 litres, a move made possible after the installation of advanced technology axial scanners at hand baggage checkpoints.
The machines were installed after the UK government ordered the country’s major airports to implement the change in hand luggage rules by June 2024.
Similar machines will be installed within the year at most major UK airports
The only airport that uses these scanners already, apart from City, is Teeside Airport at Darlington. There, passengers do not need to remove liquids and electronic devices from their bags.
Scanners have the ability to 3D capture the contents of hand luggage to check for prohibited and dangerous items and substances.
The 100ml limit on liquids a passenger can take on board has been in place in Britain since 2006, when terrorist attacks on transatlantic flights were prevented.
