Bad prognosis for Germany’s three-party coalition of Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals emerges from three new polls, from which the general conclusion is that a majority of German respondents do not believe that the coalition has the ability to govern Germany effectively under the current – difficult – conditions.

Specifically, according to the first poll on behalf of the private network RTL/ntv, 82% of German voters do not believe in Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s recent promise that the coalition government will succeed in implementing its commitments to renew German society.

In fact, it is interesting in this poll that the overwhelming majority of the supporters of the three parties of the coalition express doubts about the ability to govern the country by the specific government scheme.

“Disagreements and fights will continue”

In a second poll by the Forsa Institute for the Westdeutsche Zeitung newspaper, 84% of respondents believe that the disagreements and quarrels within the government will not only not be eliminated, but on the contrary will continue in the future. In fact, 51% of respondents consider Social Democrat Chancellor Olaf Solz “unable to govern”.

For 55% of people who took part in this poll, the war in Ukraine is still the most important issue on the daily political agenda in Germany as well, while 22% consider that the problems within the coalition government are not over, despite the image of good cooperation which the German chancellor is trying to get out.

Bild: 55% call for an end to co-government

However, a third opinion poll, this time by the Insa institute on behalf of the Bild newspaper, also attracts attention. According to this survey, 55% of respondents are in favor of ending the current coalition government, with 30% considering that it should complete the government’s work.

In fact, only the supporters of the three coalition parties believe that the current government structure should continue, namely 51% of the FDP voters, 61.5% of the Social Democrats and 65% of the Greens.

The majority of the voters of the opposition parties are, however, overwhelmingly against the continuation of the co-government. This is what 73% of the voters of the official opposition (Christian Democrats/Christian Socialists), 56% of the voters of the Left and of course 83% of the supporters of the ethno-populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) say.
