The Kremlin announced today that he attended the “important conversations” between the Chinese president Xi Jinping, its French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyennoting, however, that he doubts China will change its stance on the Ukraine conflict under foreign pressure.

China has proposed its own her “peace plan” for Ukraine in Beijing’s first major diplomatic intervention in the conflict, but Ukraine and Western leaders remain skeptical of Xi’s close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov told reporters today that the Russian presidency “watch” talks between the EU and China, but underlined that Russia has its own “rich relations” with Beijing.

“China is a very serious, very big power with its own dominant position (…) It is not the kind of country that changes its positions quickly under foreign influence”Peskov noted, responding to a question about whether Russia was worried that Europe could convince Xi about Ukraine.

After the talks, Xi expressed a willingness to speak directly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to von der Leyen, while Macron said he urged Beijing “bring Russia back to reason.”
