US President Joe Biden announced yesterday, Friday, that he would “fight” a federal judge’s decision to suspend the marketing authorization — across the entire US territory — of mifepristone pills used for the medical termination of pregnancy, calling the decision this an “unprecedented” attempt to “deprive women of their fundamental rights”.

“My administration will fight this decision,” the US president said in a statement issued by the White House.

The US Department of Justice has already announced that it will appeal a federal judge’s decision in Texas to suspend the US marketing authorization of mifepristone pills used for the medical termination of pregnancy.

The government “strongly disagrees with the decision,” noted US Attorney General Merrick Garland, announcing an appeal and denouncing the judge’s ruling as “contrary to the judgment of experts at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), who have ruled for over 20 years that mifepristone is safe and effective”
