A statue of Nursultan Nazarbayev, once the “father of the nation”, was torn down by protesters in the Kazakh city of Taldikorgan as the former president reportedly left the country.
The videos show a military truck breaking down the imposing statue to the cheers of the crowd, footage reminiscent of the collapse of the Soviet Union.
According to Turkish media, citing information from Almaty, the former president of Kazakhstan and his family allegedly left the country.
Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko has launched a crackdown on unidentified “enemies” in the wake of the unrest in Kazakhstan (“they will grind us, spit on us”), Nazarbayev was quoted as saying by a Reuters news agency.
The Belta news agency reported that Lukashenko and Nazarbayev “discussed in detail the situation in Kazakhstan”, but did not provide further details.
The dramatic hours she and her family are experiencing were described on SKAI by Sabina Mukhamedova, a resident of Kazakhstan with Greek roots
