The US has sanctioned more than 120 people and entities around the world for their ties to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The sanctions, imposed by the US Treasury and State Departments, target individuals and entities in more than 20 countries, including a private military company, a China-based company and entities linked to Russia’s state-run nuclear power company Rosatom.
The latest sanctions target a wide network linked to Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, including his company USM Holdings and companies under its umbrella, such as Russia’s mobile operator Megafon, Russia’s largest iron ore company Metalloinvest and its subsidiaries in Switzerland and UAE and the Akhangarancement cement industry in Uzbekistan.
Also targeted is the private military firm Patriot, which the US State Department says is linked to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and was competing with the Wagner mercenary group, as well as the Chinese satellite imagery company China HEAD Aerospace Technology, which according to the US State Department, it provides satellite images of sites in Ukraine to entities working with Wagner and its head Yevgeny Prigozhin.
