World record holder Eliud Kipchoge is top of the stars to run this year’s Boston Marathon
The 127th Boston Marathon takes place today, Monday, at 16:00 Greek time amid an emotional atmosphere as Saturday marked 10 years since the terrorist attack by the Tsarnaev brothers that left three dead and more than 260 injured – many of them amputees.

World record holder Eliud Kipchoge is the top star running this year’s Boston Marathon. Two-time Olympic medalist Kipchoge became the first to unofficially run a marathon under two hours in 2019. He now aims to add a title to his debut at the Boston race.
The Boston Marathon has humbled legends in the past. Eliud Kipchoge, marathon running’s ultimate speed demon, will tackle it for the first time on Monday. Even he doesn’t know how his body will react, or if he will be able to continue the magic. https://t.co/YqjKZz81Kd pic.twitter.com/IFVC2muisu

He will face a tough challenge from his fellow Kenyans, defending champion Evans Chebet and 2021 winner Benson Kipruto, as well as Ethiopia’s Lilia Desisa, the 2019 world champion who won Boston in 2015 and 2013.
Inspired by the success of the first marathon, that of the 1896 Olympic Games in Athens, the Boston Marathon was first held in 1897. This makes it the oldest annual marathon event in the world, while also being one of the best known.
