Categories An elderly white man in the central US state of Missouri was charged Monday with fatally wounding an African-American teenager who knocked on the door of his home without realizing he was at the wrong address, the local district attorney said.
Andrew Lester, 85, is charged with two felonies, one of which carries a life sentence, Clay County District Attorney Zachary Thompson said.
Meanwhile hundreds of protesters called for justice for Ralph Paul Earl, 16, who was wounded in the head and arm by Lester’s bullets and is in critical condition, said Ben Crump, a well-known attorney who defends African-American victims of violence.
The teenager’s parents he had been asked to pick up his 13-year-old twin brothers from a home in Kansas City. Ralph got the address wrong and went to the wrong house. The homeowner fired at the teenager through the front door, his aunt Faith Spoonmoore said.

Police confirmed they responded to a call just before 10pm on Thursday night stating that Earl was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
“The information we currently have does not demonstrate that this action took place racist character, the investigation continues. But as a police chief, I recognize the racist nature of this case,” Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said Sunday.
US President Joe Biden spoke to the teenager by phone yesterday, Monday, and “expressed his hope for a speedy recovery”, the White House said.
The bloody incidents shootings are common in the US, a country of about 330 million people and about 400 million firearms.
Jarl was shot hours before four people were killed and at least 28 others were injured, mostly teenagers, in another shooting incident at a birthday party Saturday night in Alabama.
Also in New York state, authorities announced yesterday that a 20-year-old woman was shot and killed in her car when she got confused and pulled into the parking lot of the wrong house.
